Over $600 million worth of cryptocurrencies have undoubtedly been taken in what may be one of the greatest heists ever.

When it comes to finding new methods of working with multiple blockchains, hackers have recently discovered a vulnerability in Poly Network. This platform tries to connect different blockchains so that they can collaborate.

In a pretty unexpected turn of events, On Wednesday, approximately half of the money they stole was returned by hackers.

Hackers are back about half the 600 million dollars they stole in probably one of the largest cryptocurrency robberies ever.

Cyber thieves have exploited a security flaw on Poly Network, a platform that attempts to enable multiple blockchains to operate together.

The Poly Network revealed the incident on Tuesday and encouraged attackers to communicate and "return the hacked assets."

Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies are built atop a distributed ledger of activity known as the blockchain. There are several blockchains for digital coins. To make these different blockchains function together, Poly Network promises to be capable of doing so.

Poly Network is a decentralized finance network that operates on the Ethereum blockchain and Binance Smart Chain, DeFi is a broad term that encompasses financial applications built on blockchain technology that aim to eliminate middlemen — such as brokerages and exchanges — to reduce transaction costs. Therefore, it's decentralized dubbed.

Hackers Begin to Pay Back the Money

In a weird twist of events, the hackers started sending monies that they stole back to their victims on Wednesday.

In a transaction for Poly Network, they included a note to the effect of "we're ready to reimburse your funds." As a result, the DeFi platform requested that the money be delivered to three different cryptocurrency addresses.

The Poly Network addresses had received more than $4.8 million in refunds as of 7 a.m. London time on Monday.
