Maqsad, an online education startup, has received $2.1 million in pre-seed funding, which it intends to use to develop and enrich the content on its platform.

Indus Valley Capital led the round, which was completed in three weeks through virtual meetings. They were also attended by Alter Global, Fatima Gobi Ventures, and several angel investors from Pakistan, the Middle East, and Europe.

Taha Ahmed and Roshan Aziz, two childhood friends who left their consulting and investment banking jobs to provide accessible education to underprivileged Pakistanis, founded Maqsad.

The mobile platform contains academic content and testing features designed to supplement formal school education and improve learning outcomes.

Aziz said:

We are building a mobile-first platform, given that 95 percent of

oadband users in Pakistan are via mobile.

The creators want to utilize their pre-seed financing to employ animators and academics, construct a production facility, and invest in technological advances.

Maqsad intends to target students pursuing K-12 education in Pakistan, beginning with Grades 11 and 12, and expanding into other subjects such as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in the coming years.

In English, the word 'maqsad' means 'purpose.' Aziz and Ahmed both feel that everyone has a purpose.

"Maqsad's mission is to enable Pakistani students to realise this purpose; whether you are a student from an urban centre like Lahore or from a remote village in Sindh: Maqsad believes in equal opportunity for all," he stressed.
