Both companies announced Thursday that Riot Games' League of Legends, Valorant, Teamfight Tactics, and Legends of Runeterra are now available on the Epic Games Store. Like Riot, they're available for free download and play. Epic Titles' Epic Client, Riot's new unified launcher, will be installed on your computer when you download the games from the Epic Games Store.
This isn't the first time Epic has made it possible to download another company's launcher; the Itch.io launcher has been available for download through the Epic Games Store. Epic's readiness to integrate apps with third-party launchers aligns with CEO Tim Sweeney's long-standing advocacy for more open app distribution strategies.
A direct payment method for Fortnite has been an issue for Epic Games, which is currently embroiled in legal conflicts with Apple and Google after introducing it in breach of their laws.
The addition of Riot games to the Epic Games Store adds games from the enormously popular League of Legends series to the Epic Games Store. They may benefit from being available on Epic's platform. However, I am not joking when I say that the League franchise is already massive: Riot said last week that 180 million gamers played games set in the League of Legends universe in October alone.
According to PC Gamer, the statistic is misleading because Riot is included in the mobile blockbuster League of Legends: Wild Rift and counts a single user who plays two of its games as two individual gamers. Despite this, Riot is making a concerted effort to increase the number of players in the game even further.
Fortnite and Riot have collaborated to create a Jinx skin for the game's item shop, which will be made accessible on Thursday. Ahead of Arcane's November 6th Netflix premiere, the Fortnite skin and Riot titles on Epic Games Store will be available for pre-order now.
