Mercedes-Benz has rolled out a G-Wagen off-roader in a concept form updated for a more modern electric era, with luminous accents and space-age wheels. Mercedes-Benz appeared at the IAA Mobility event in Munich to display the Prototype EQG, its electric SUV, which had few specifics revealed about it.

For example, it lacked a discussion of the car's driving range, battery size, and the electric motors' power output. It will, however, be all-wheel drive, and it will feature both a low and a high gear ratio. The tires are also 22 inches in diameter.

In contrast, the Model EQG is similar to rules that indicate an initial attempt to redesign the new generation of the G-Class, originally shown at the 2018 Detroit Motor Show, and something to ogle at until a real version is released.

While it is admirable for a first effort, it is, nevertheless, startling. The EQG is covered in just the same type of double colorwork as Mercedes-Benz utilized in its original EQS electric car. Though it was on previous models and prototypes, the LED grille that the firm had been tinkering with looks better in its current setup.

Whenever a new production EQG is available, it will enter a pretty competitive market, full of electric cars that can drive over challenging terrain. A pickup truck and an SUV are being built entirely out of electric power by General Motors, which has renewed the Hummer name.

Rivian, a company in the electric vehicle (EV) industry, will be releasing the first-ever truck model this year, while an SUV model will arrive later in 2018. Ford even made a point of promising that a battery-powered iteration of their Bronco SUV would one day reach the streets.

G-Wagen enthusiasts will be relieved to hear that while the new EQG will share many of the critical features in the more expensive models like the EQS, it will still be a point of pride as it is an off-roader.

Moreover, if Mercedes-Benz can provide the EQG with a similar range and efficiency to its EQS and EQE sedans, then the electric G-Wagen may turn into something exceptional.
