An Olympic gold medallist from India, Neeraj Chopra, has asked the Indian media to cease spreading false information on Pakistani javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem. He said that he does not want his remarks to be taken out of context to promote the media's vested interests and anti-Pakistan propaganda.
The Indian media has already created a social media controversy by taking Neeraj's remarks out of context. According to Neeraj in a recent interview with the Times of India, Arshad moved around with his Javelin before his first throw in the tournament. As a result, the Indian media accused Arshad of misconduct, causing an unnecessarily large commotion on social media.
After the incident was blown out of proportion, Neeraj posted a video on Twitter explaining that exchanging javelins during warm-ups is normal among javelin throwers. He said Arshad did nothing unusual and that competitors are permitted to warm up with other Javelins.
“I would request everyone to please not use me and my comments as a medium to further your vested interests and propaganda. Sports teaches us to be together and united. I’m extremely disappointed to see some of the reactions from the public on my recent comments.” Neeraj posted on Twitter.
