According to a Cabinet Division notification, Tabish Gauhar, the Special Assistant to the PM on Power and Petroleum, has resigned from his position.

The notification said, "The Prime Minister has been pleased to accept the resignation tendered by Mr. Tabish Gauhar, from the post of Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Power and Petroleum, with effect from 2oth September 2021."

Gauhar announced his resignation in a tweet, stating he wanted to spend more time with his family after a year of public service.

Despite the numerous difficulties facing the energy industry, he thinks that the Ministry of Energy team will continue to undertake structural changes under the leadership of Minister Hammad Azhar.

"Whilst the challenges in the energy sector are manifold, I have no doubt that under the able leadership of Hammad Azhar, the M.O.E. team will continue to stay the course on structural reforms. May Allah continues to bless Pakistan – Ameen," Gohar concluded.

Gauhar tried to quit in January, citing the government's talks with independent power producers, but Prime Minister Imran Khan refused to accept his resignation at the time.

A.A.H. Soomro, Managing Director at Khadim Ali Shah Bukhari Securities, tweeted that Gauhar's departure was a setback for the energy industry and was the consequence of bureaucratic opposition to the Special Assistant's objectives.

He was the Managing Director of K-Electric for seven years before becoming the Special Assistant on October 1, 2020.
