Sohail Akhtar, Deputy Inspector General Traffic of the Punjab Police, said today that the procedure of acquiring a driver's licence has been digitised, which would guarantee openness in professional issues while also making life easier for people. Sohail said that the action was done in line with the vision of Punjab Police Inspector General Rao Sardar Ali Khan.

DIG Traffic further said that any corruption in getting a driver's licence is unacceptable. The department would not hesitate to take severe legal action against any official discovered to be engaged in such irregularities.

DIG Traffic said that state-of-the-art cameras would be placed in the driving test area to capture the whole procedure and ordered all District Traffic Officers (DTOs) to spend just two hours in their offices and the rest of the time in the field. Sohail went on to say that the driving test would be held twice a week and that DTOs would be stationed in the field for four hours to manage accidents.

Furthermore, he said that driving exams for commercial cars would not be performed in the absence of DTOs and that anybody who exposes or produces evidence of corruption will be awarded Rs. 10,000. Sohail said that medical certifications would not be faked and that SOPs would be followed in all instances.
