New Zealand Cricket has cancelled its Pakistan tour owing to security concerns. However, the New Zealand squad chose to stay back at their hotel instead of playing today's first ODI.

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has opted to recall their national squad from Pakistan. Player safety is important, and we feel this is the only responsible choice, according to NZC CEO David White.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) stated that NZC unilaterally cancelled the trip despite repeated promises and rigorous security assessments.

According to the PCB,

Earlier today, New Zealand Cricket informed us they had been alerted to some security alert and have unilaterally decided to postpone the series.
Pakistan Cricket Board and the Pakistan government made foolproof security arrangements for all visiting teams. We have assured the New Zealand Cricket of the same. The Pakistan Prime Minister spoke personally to the Prime Minister of New Zealand and informed her that we have one of the best intelligence systems in the world and that no security threat of any kind exists for the visiting team.
