The British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, was furious by the ECB's decision to cancel the Pakistan trip, which officials believe has damaged ties between the two nations. Other authorities have voiced dissatisfaction with the England and Wales Cricket Board.
He said:
I’ve been a strong advocate for international cricket returning to Pakistan, and I’ll step up my efforts in the run-up to England’s fall 2022 tour. Thank you to everyone on the PCB who has worked so hard to make it happen.
Turner added:
The British High Commission backed the tour, didn’t advise against it on security reasons, and our Pakistan travel advice hasn’t changed.
The European Cricket Board (ECB) cancelled its men's and women's trips to Pakistan earlier this week, citing the players' mental and physical well-being. Senior officials saw it as a possible setback for Pakistan-UK ties.
The British High Commissioner emphasised that the ECB's reluctance to visit Pakistan was a personal choice that the British government did not influence.
However, PM Johnson is "mad" at the ECB's decision to cancel the men's and women's white-ball trips to Pakistan.
