To combat the theft and selling of stolen cellphones, the Punjab Police Department has officially developed its own smartphone application, the eGadget Monitoring System. The app was launched at the DIG Investigations Lahore Office, and the event was attended by Chief Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), BA Nasir. There were also other top police officials, personnel, stakeholders, and media partners present.

CCPO Lahore praised the program as a successful tool for preventing smartphone theft by more than 60% during his speech on occasion. He assured those merchants in attendance that the software would help them protect their everyday operations. He said that its services would be expanded to other cities in the province after proven successful in the provincial capital. Furthermore, DIG Dr. Inam Wajid said at the event that smartphone companies would be allowed to record IMEIs of sold phones on the application, effectively creating a primary database for smartphones.

If a phone is stolen, the police will immediately get access to the database through the program and monitor its whereabouts, boosting the likelihood of finding the device in a short amount of time. He said that customers looking to buy a smartphone would be able to check whether the gadget is stolen or not. If a smartphone is stolen, the police will be informed immediately through the app, and a First Information Report (FIR) will be immediately submitted to it.

In cooperation with the Punjab Information Technology Board, the Capital City Police Lahore created the eGadget Monitoring System application (PITB). The software is accessible for both Android and iOS users, and it features a simple user interface.
