Following a stunning 70 runs off 49 balls against Namibia on Tuesday, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is expected to ascend to the top of the T20I batting rankings. Babar's 70-run innings were the major spark in the skipper's 113-run opening combination with Mohammad Rizwan, which enabled Pakistan to score a massive total of 189 runs. This was the tournament's second-highest total, after only Afghanistan's 190 against Scotland.

England's David Malan and Babar Azam are now in top and second place, respectively. However, this courageous inning is expected to close the 11-point gap between Babar and the current No. 1 T20I hitter, Malan, in the T20I batting rankings. South Africa's Aiden Markram (743), Pakistan's M. Rizwan (727), and India's Virat Kohli (725) round out the top five.

Following the ranking update, which is likely later today or tomorrow, Babar would become the top T20 hitter for the second time since 2018, when he regained the top spot three times in the same year due to his exquisite batting form.
