Discord is already the primary location for NFT groups, but the firm may be contemplating a significant expansion of those links. According to Discord's CEO and founder, Jason Citron, posted a screenshot on Monday. Many mobile crypto wallets use the open protocol WalletConnect.

It has been seamlessly integrated into Discord with the popular MetaMask service. Using the NFT Twitterverse term "probably nothing," Citron implied that this would be a massive problem.

In the meantime, the wallet support appears to be merely exploratory. Gave no information on how a possible coin integration would function or how concerned Discord is about integrating crypto, and Citron likewise refused to disclose specifics.

A Discord spokesman said, "We're continuously investigating and hacking away at things we consider will enhance Discord for all the groups we serve." they took the screenshot at a recent hackathon.

There may be a speculative Discord plan to add crypto functionality to the social chat software that may go well beyond payments, assuming the firm could implement Ethereum compatibility. Discord recently conducted a survey asking its users what they felt about NFTs.

Many NFT initiatives found a home in Discord this year. Discord servers are used by many of these projects to communicate with their supporters, issue updates, and monitor sales and market activity. To help with distribution events, NFTs are "minted" and sold or distributed to supporters before being eventually listed on exchanges such as OpenSea, typically at exorbitant prices.

While Discord may be focused on Ethereum and other digital currencies, Citron's mention of MetaMask support could indicate a more ambitious ambition centered on NFTs. In addition to serving as the technical foundation for most NFTs, they may use a coin like Ethereum for everyday payment transactions. Ethereum uses smart contracts to keep track of and exchange NFTs.

People are already using nFTs to represent their digital identities, and Discord is undoubtedly aware of this. Users can show their individuality primarily by choosing the avatar on the text and speech chat program Discord, which is particularly popular among NFTs.

As NFT-savvy Twitter and Discord users know, the most expensive and rarest NFTs are routinely used as PFPs on these platforms (profile picture). MetaMask might allow Discord users to exhibit their NFTs in galleries connected to their user accounts or choose "confirmed" avatar photos, all of which are backed up by the blockchain.

Decentralization, digital goods, and ownership-based virtual identity predicted the hallmark of Web3. The next phase of the internet that many believe will characterize the wave of devolution. However, Discord is also doing well at the moment.

Citron's tweet and the survey regarding "Discord and Web3" were highly controversial in the Twittersphere. Concerns about Discord's NFT strategy prompted several accounts to encourage their followers to quit their premium Nitro subscriptions, which offer additional features for a monthly cost. On Twitter, one user wrote, "Canceled my nitro subscription hate @discord and f***k NFTs."

Others responded to Citron's tweet by criticizing Discord's nascent crypto intentions, claiming that scams and spam are clogging up existing community servers. Citron reassured several Twitter users that Discord had formed a new team to expressly address the prevalent dodgy conduct that plagues many servers, especially those oriented around NFT trading and selling. At the top of Citron's priority list was making sure the space was spam-free. "We've recently formed a dedicated team to focus on it." Additional information will be forthcoming."
