OpenAI has launched GitHub Copilot, an AI-powered code generation platform.

Should We Be Concerned Right Now?

How it works, the vulnerabilities it has, and whether you should be concerned as a programmer.

It is capable of writing user-friendly code and outperforms its predecessor, GPT-3.

Copilot automatically completes code snippets, proposes additional lines of code, and can even construct full functionality depending on the provided description.

A virtual pair coder on GitHub generates pairs of keywords and phrases based on user input.

This is the first taste of a $1 billion investment from Microsoft in OpenAI – an AGI-specialized R and D business (Artificial General Intelligence).

In conclusion, this is a noteworthy achievement because the tool produces working code that you can utilize in your applications.

Millions of people will utilize it when it is released to the public. Therefore development will speed up dramatically.

However, Copilot gets roughly half of the predictions correct, which the creators believe calls for tracking its output.

GitHub Copilot strives to comprehend your goal and provide the best code that can be, but it may not always function or make sense of the code it suggests. Copilot can only work with the currently open file.

According to the developers, the application will assist in enhancing productivity while freeing developers from monotonous jobs, allowing them to undertake more stimulating work.

It is also feasible that it lowers the hurdles for entry for people who are just starting in the software sector.

As I see it, there is no way that even the most powerful artificial intelligence (AI) will ever be able to replace humans fully.

I'm afraid I have to disagree that AI would one day excel in all fields of programming and solve any unique, complex problem itself. This is particularly true in the field of data science.

While GitHub Copilot may be a better program, I doubt it will outperform the basic Auto-ML packages.

It's true that AI-based tools like these, funded by multi-billion dollar corporations, will be widely used in programmers' daily tasks.
