On Thursday, Microsoft launches a new version of Windows software that powers most computers globally, opening the door for Google-based Android-supported applications.
According to Microsoft, Windows 11 will be offered as a free upgrade to its predecessor this holiday season.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella stated in a live presentation, "World Windows today represents an important milestone in its history."
"This was the start of a new computer generation; we are all re-imagining."
Microsoft's Windows 11 innovations included first integrating Android apps into Windows by allowing personal computer users to access them from the Amazon App Store.
The option would be limited to Amazon's Android apps, which would not provide several popular applications.
Panos Panay, Microsoft's chief product officer, showed the update using the TikTok app, which he describes as one of his favourites.
"Imagine capturing and publishing videos on your personal computer from TikTok or using children of the Khan Academy for virtual learning" added Panay.
Microsoft has redesigned its store on Windows for apps and other digital content to make it more welcoming. The company also announced that developers would be allowed to utilize their business platforms to avoid paying any profits to the tech giant.
