For its S flagships, Samsung has never particularly prioritized optical zoom capabilities. The Galaxy S20 and S21 offer exceptional hybrid zoom capabilities, but they fall short in the optical zoom area, with a maximum magnification of just 1.1x.
However, according to a recent GalaxyClub rumor, Samsung may address this issue with the forthcoming Galaxy S22. According to the rumor, the Galaxy S22 series will have a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom for the first time, replacing the hybrid zoom seen on the Galaxy S20 and S21. The S22 Ultra will feature the same 10MP dual telephoto lens configuration as the S21 Ultra. One of them will be capable of 10x optical zoom. Even if Samsung foregoes the 10x optical zoom lens, the Galaxy S22 and S22+ will still get a single improved optical zoom lens with 3x magnification.
The Galaxy Club report also supports a previous rumor claiming a 50MP primary camera for the Galaxy S22 and S22+ versions. This will accompany a 12MP ultrawide shooter, but no information has been released on the front camera or its upgrades.
The Exynos 2200 SoC with an AMD mRDNA GPU and a 4,500 mAh battery with super-fast charging are also reported. It is anticipated to come pre-installed with Android 12 and One UI 4.0. The Samsung Galaxy S22 series, like its predecessors, is anticipated to debut in early 2022.
