Rooting a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is not a good idea if you don’t know what you’re getting into. Folks over at XDA Developers have discovered that attempting to unlock the foldable’s bootloader completely disables its camera.
If you attempt to unlock the bootloader, the phone warns you that doing so "will deactivate the camera and may cause your phones and applications to cease functioning properly." That is what happened if you attempt to get root access.
The stock camera app will no longer function after unlocking the bootloader. It will no longer start or take pictures, and applications that utilize the camera will not access it. Third-party camera applications will either time out after a while or stay black. Even facial recognition will cease to function.
Rooting Samsung smartphones has always been a challenge, but this is the most efficient means of preventing it since most people now utilize cameras on their phones.
However, re-locking the bootloader does re-enable the camera, so all is not lost if you mess about with your phone. Engadget attempted to contact Samsung for a comment but was informed that the firm had no information to offer.
