WhatsApp is working on making messages vanish after 90 days.

In the previous year, WhatsApp launched messages that expire after 7 days. It also began working on "view once" messages a few months ago, which, as the name suggests, are gone forever once you see them.
WhatsApp is also planning to introduce a new message expiration option of 90 days.
So, after all of these capabilities are released from beta, you'll be given a menu similar to the one seen in the image below, where you'll be able to select between "Off" (so messages never vanish) and having a selection which will expire your conversations after 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days.

The "90 days" option has just recently arrived in the WhatsApp Android beta (spotted in the latest version, 2.21.9.6).
WhatsApp often holds new features in beta for several weeks (or even months) before releasing them to all of its users, so we don't know when you can expect this to be available to everyone. Still, knowing that it's being worked on is reassuring.
