Xiaomi has officially unveiled its next flagship gadget, the Mi Mix 4. Historically, Xiaomi's concept smartphone range has been the Mi Mix series, displaying cutting-edge technology. The original Mi Mix helped usher in the thin bezel screens era, and subsequent generations built on it even more with a pop-up selfie camera.

The display of the Mi Mix 4 is edge-to-edge, with no cuts, notches, or pop-up cameras; the selfie camera is concealed underneath the display, in plain sight. Aside from that, the phone has the finest hardware and cameras, as well as the world's quickest charging technology.

Display and Design

The display is a 6.67-inch curved AMOLED screen with 1080p resolution and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. It has a full-screen display with no punch-holes or notches since the selfie camera is built into the display, a first for Xiaomi. Unlike ZTE's approach, Xiaomi has entirely rebuilt the circuit arrangement on display to maximize the amount of light reaching the front camera. In layman's words, this implies that the area of the screen above the front camera will not have a lowered quality, which may cause objects to appear fuzzy.

This display is covered by Gorilla Glass Victus and supports 10-bit colors. The fingerprint sensor is also located underneath the display and supports quick unlocks. The phone will also have a ceramic back, as is customary with the Mix series.

Storage and Internals

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 is also the first smartphone to use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888+ processor, which is an overclocked Snapdragon 888 chip with a quicker CPU and improved AI. This is coupled with up to "12GB LPDDR5" RAM and "256GB UFS 3.1" storage, but a 512GB version is also on the way. The phone will boot into Android 11 with MIUI 12.5 on top. It also features Ultra-Wideband for highly accurate GPS location that works inside, just like iPhone 12.

Cameras

The primary camera system on the rear consists of a 108MP 1/1.33-inch ISOCELL HMX sensor coupled with an 8MP periscope camera with 100x magnification. There is also a 13MP ultrawide lens with a 123-degree field of view. This camera system can record 1080p slow-motion movies, 4K 60FPS videos, and 8K videos at 30 FPS. The under-display selfie camera is a 20-megapixel snapper that can record HD slow-motion movies and 1080p footage at 30 frames per second.

Battery and Pricing

The phone has a 4,500 mAh battery and supports 120W rapid charging through the USB C connector. Xiaomi says that charging the phone from 0 to 100 percent would take just 15 minutes. There is also the capability for 50W rapid wireless charging.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 will be available in Ceramic Black, Ceramic Grey, and Ceramic White, with prices ranging from CNY 4,999 ($770) for the basic model (8 GB/128 GB) to CNY 6,299 ($970) for the top-end variant (12 GB/512 GB). It will be released in China on August 16th, but there is no news on worldwide distribution at this time.
